Your Own Entrance Exam Study Schedule

The Right Mindset to start a study Schedule

It is preparation time for those who are planning to sit for entrance tests . Many of you have started your exam preparation quite some time back. But frankly –How many of you have a Study Plan?

If you don’t, here are a few tips as to how one can go about it as it is important to have a good study plan. It helps you to keep track of the syllabus you need to cover in a ranged time span

Self study will strengthen all the concepts you study daily in a big class. You can finish your homework and learn from it side by side while doing self study. You can actually find doubts in concepts and discuss with your teacher timely.

But the main question is how to do self-study?

And an even bigger question is, how to do it on a daily basis?

Follow a Self Study Plan

A detailed study plan, time table, is very important.

You follow a study plan in School/coaching. You must have one for your home as well.

Follow the following tips while making the study plan for yourself:

  • Write your daily routine on a paper.

  • In your daily routine keep time for school/tuition/coaching, meals, exercise, naps and short breaks.

  • Decide how much time to devote for entrance exams daily and stick to it.

  • Choose chapters same as studied in school on weekdays to revise. Devote 30 minutes daily for entrance preparation on every chapter as studied in school.

  • Use Sundays and holidays to revise chapters already covered.

  • Give more time to weak chapters.

  • In case you miss your studies one day, make sure to cover it up on another day.

  • don't make the study sessions too long;

  • A noisy area can increase stress while studying. Avoid studying with the television or radio on. Pick a quiet place like your local library to study.

  • prevent boredom. Study sessions should have enough variety in terms of topics and activities to prevent boredom and loss of effectiveness;

  • Assess yourself. Take AIMCATS. Analyze the result. Mark the areas you could consider your weak areas. Concentrate on these areas when you begin studying.

Morning self-study

Morning time is the best time to study. This is the only time when your mind can absorb more than the rest of the day. You are fresh and hence can learn better.

Waking up in the morning is difficult mainly if you study till late in the night. So you can start with waking up just 30 minutes earlier than your regular routine and devote this time to self study. You can increase this time as you feel more comfortable.

How to do this on a regular basis

This is the trickiest part. We start self study with a lot of enthusiasm but as time passes by we get relaxed and cannot keep up. How to continue to do self study on a regular basis.

Remind yourself daily that self-study is necessary. You can ask your parents, siblings or friends to do it. You can make a big poster in front of your bed to remind you of that.

Also, understand why the Entrance Test (you are sitting for) is important to you. When preparing for the Exams, prepare through small, well-planned steps. Accomplish each step; build upon them. Then use these accomplishments as additional benefits and motivators to move you closer to the final achievement
